PANIC!

I've been having mini money panic attacks all day about money.  It's going to be a hard summer to get through so I'm doing everything I can to stay afloat.  I decided to offer a 10% discount on already marked down items in my Etsy shop for my blog readers.  If you purchase something, just convo me and tell me you're a reader and I will refund you ten percent.  Every little bit helps, right? Go take a look!
In fifteen minutes I will be getting a haircut that will hopefully look like this.  I found this image in a magazine but was too poor to buy the magazine so I took a picture with my (borrowed) camera.  Poor, right?
Just want to remind everyone that today is the last day to sign up for my GIVEAWAY! Please please sign up.  Tomorrow I will be drawing for the winner!  Go do it now!!

I Got a Treasury!

I absolutely cannot figure out how to do a screen capture so that I can get the whole treasury so this is what I got.  Any suggestions?  I'm super excited about getting this treasury.  The last time I tried to get one I missed it by seconds.  Go take a look at it here!  I love houses so much and was excited to do a house-themed treasury.  My spell checker is telling me themed is not a word.  Sorry!
Still feeling a little yucky today but I'm going to celebrate my treasury by going to the studio.
Have a great Wednesday!

Feeling Yucky on a Grey Day

I got a late start to my day today because I'm not feeling so well. My allergies feel like they're going crazy.  It may be because I sat outside till late last night playing scrabble.  I had such an enjoyable time doing that (and I won both games!) so I guess I can deal with these sickly consequences today.  It's just hard to get motivated to move about too much because my throat hurts and my head feels fuzzy.  So while I wait for the worst to pass I'm catching up on my favorite blogs and listening to Joanna Newsom.  I absolutely love her music. It reminds me a lot of Cocorosie.  I feel like someone is telling me little fairy tales set to music.  Here's a picture of her.  Isn't she beautiful? She sounds just like she looks. Does that make sense?
Yesterday I went to see the movie Up.  I've got to admit I'm normally not a fan of these kinds of movies.  I think I'm the only person alive who didn't like Finding Nemo or Shrek. I just can't get into it.  But this movie seemed so different and the beautiful old house combined with the millions of balloons was real eye candy for me.  Those are my two favorite objects.  Why did I never think to draw houses being lifted by balloons?  Though I wouldn't call the movie my favorite I did cry my eyes out through most of it so luckily I was hidden behind huge 3D glasses. It really touched on a lot of things that I'm very sensitive to. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry a little now but it may be mostly because of my foggy head.  Up is a movie definitely worth checking out. The visuals are amazingly beautiful.  But be prepared to cry.  Or at least sniffle a bit.  I admittedly cry easily at movies but this is one that is hard to avoid a few tears.  My movie partner might disagree. He might have even laughed a bit at my sobbing.  It's okay. It was a little funny when I got in the car and started crying all over again while talking about it.   Im sensitive!!
The other day I found a new blog (new to me) that I have apparently lost.  I thought I stuck it in my following list but but it seems I did not.  Anyway, she posted a photo of what was inside her purse and encouraged other readers to do the same.  Here is mine.  You may recognize the table from the bar photo in my last post. Yes, I did this at a bar.  There was some downtime when people left the table to do various activities.

In my purse you will currently find my wallet, a book of animal stencils because you never know when those will come in handy, a parking ticket (oops.), my cute kitten calendar that i never use, cigarettes (nasty habit, I know), a beer top, cell phone, chap-stick, lipstick, eye drops, power compact, pen, sharpie (for writing on those gross bar tables), more lipstick (color name: princess), a pile of receipts, notes, and show cards, my ipod hookup for my car, my holga lens cap, keys, a pearl necklace my friend Jane gave me, a headband and you can't see it that well but an egg from a quarter machine with a toy dog inside.  Seriously, I'm like a little kid when it comes to my purse.  I have to have activities and toys constantly so I never get bored!
Post what is in your purse (or man purse for any gentleman readers) and let me know about it!
Hope your day is going well!  My giveaway is still going on so check it out!!

Simply Sweet Saturday

As I mentioned in my last blog my friend Joanna came to DeKalb for the weekend and we documented our Saturday with the camera I'm still borrowing (I'll return it soon, I swear).
This is the beginning of our day.  We looked pretty rough so we didn't want to show our faces.  But cute summertime shoes, right?
I had to go pick up my bike so we walked a long long way (ok, a mile) and got my little yellow bicycle but then had to deal with walking it back.  We each took turns riding it slowly and eventually settled on each of us holding on to a handlebar.  We sang Moldy Peaches songs about our friendship and talked about boys and moving to Portland.

During the walk back my friend Jane called to see if I wanted to join her at this rustic establishment for a late lunch.  We hopped over there and got a shot of the front of the building.  Like the antlers?
I'm trying to have a healthier diet so i opted to get a salad on the side of my french fries.  This is the kind of place where the salad is all iceberg and the cheese is neon yellow.
Joanna got a cheeseburger and was going to split fries with Jane but they decided there weren't enough fries so she ordered more.  I feel like french fries are a very important part of this day.
Here are the fries.  Don't be concerned by the glowing goo in the cup.  It's just cheese.  I realized I didn't get a picture of Jane and her main man Seth.  They are a cute couple and lots of fun.

After Twin Tavern Joanna and I were going to go to my studio but it seemed so late in the day and we had plans for later so we went and got ice cream instead.  then we took a photo in front of the cutesy dated looking picture of ice creams.  Joanna seemed sad that I ate my ice cream so slowly.  She was finished and I still had a cone to go. I wanted to savor it.  Oh, yeah. Remember how earlier I said I was trying to eat healthier?  So, to get over the guilt feelings, while Joanna went home to shower I walked on my treadmill.  And don't forget about that mile to and from earlier.   I think I'm just trying to make myself feel better here.  Bear with me.
After working out and showering we got back together and took our picture to prove we looked better than we did earlier in the day.  We then went to Borders to check out an art show that was going on and read magazines.  No pictures were taken to prove this actually happened but I promise it did.
We came back to my house and watched music videos on my computer for a bit and then we headed to the local bar.  We walked, Mom, no driving...

While we waited for friends to show up we amused ourselves (and probably everyone else in the bar) by taking a bunch of pictures.  These are just a couple.

Then our friend Christian showed up!  I surprised him when I quickly snapped this pic.  I love that the Paperback Grotto is in the background.  That's Dekalb's infamous adult bookstore.

A few more friends showed up and made our night quite complete.  Afterwards Joanna and I went our separate ways only to meet up the next day when we laid on the grass and read books.  Weekends are the best!

I hope you enjoyed my documentation of a sweet simple Saturday.  I want to remind everyone about my giveaway. I'm a little sad because there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm.  Thank you to Afiori for commenting and posting a link. You are quite a dear!  Go check it out!

What I've Been Working On

I mentioned in my last blog I would show somethings I've been doing in my shop.  These are some collages I've been working on. I thought i rotated the top image but I guess I didn't.  If you click on the images they should get larger.  I've been using a lot of scraps I find in the studio, usually on the floor, to make these collages. I love the ghost girls.  They are fashionable ghosts.
Today my good friend Joanna and I are going to work in my studio together. It should be fun!
Don't forget the giveaway I'm having. I'm excited for this and hope you participate!

Etsy One Year Anniversary Giveaway!

On June 20th I will have had my Etsy shop for one year!  To celebrate I'm giving away this handpulled lithograph print.  If you're not that familliar with the lithograph process check it out here.  As some of you know I'm in a bind without a digital camera so I took some quick snapshots of the print with iphoto for now.  Better pictures to come.  And I can't find my ruler so I can give exact measurements but it's a bit larger than 8"x10".  The piece is called Ghost Home and is marked as an artist proof. The edition was limited and some of the prints will turn into monoprints.  Please click on the links to learn more about printmaking, that's what I'm in grad school for!
Okay, so how do you win the print? Go to my Etsy shop and tell me your favorite piece.  What do you like about it?  Also major love will be given out if you post a link of this giveaway to your blog.  On June 20th I will randomly select one of the comments using the number pulled out of the hat trick.  I'm very excited about this and hope you are, too!  More pics to come of this print, I promise!

I got some new photos made for my shop! I also decided to put the green ghost in a frame. I think it's a nice place for it.  It's fun setting up these little photo shoots.  Tomorrow I'm going to add a new piece to the shop.  I'm also going to show some in progress work that will hopefully be in my thesis show.  I've been doing a lot of tinkering in the studio and making some fun collages. I can't wait to put them on here.  Also I'm working on an embroidery.  It's pretty simple but it's my first one.  I'm making it for a good friend of mine who is going to be my future roommate.  More about that later.

I have to show some pictures of a certain dog who makes my heart go pitter patter.  His name is Seamore and he's very charming, if not a little odd.  The bottom photo is hilarious.  I caught him mid-yawn but he looks like he's about to attack.  Seamore yawns a lot so I guess it's no surprise that I would eventually catch him this way.  Isn't he adorable?

I borrowed a camera today and start working on new photos for my shop.  I'm trying to put the pieces in an environment so people can get more of a feel for what my work is.  I'm pretty pleased with these photos though I feel like they may be a little gray.  They were taken in my studio.  I'm going to hopefully get the rest taken tomorrow but I may run into a problem.  The camera I borrowed is low on battery!  We'll see if I can get this fixed very soon.
I biked to and from the studio today which was twenty minutes each way.  It was such a nice ride and I felt like I really accomplished something. I'm so very happy with my bicycle.  I need to take a picture of it before my battery dies.
I'm thinking it's time for me to do a giveaway soon. My shop has been open for almost a year now so I'd like to do something special.  Keep checking in and find out what you can win!
UPDATE!! prices just fell so hard in my shop. go help them out!

Wow!

This may be very old, I'm not sure, but I just found this video of a Dirty Dancing trailer that blew my mind! It's called the David Lynch cut and it's very chilling.  Dirty Dancing is definitely a guilty pleasure movie but I would love to see this version. Please! Check it out!

I'm drinking coffee and making lunch in my OWN apartment because I finally gave in and got internet... thanks to my parents of course for helping me pay for it during the summer months.  I'm quite happy. Right as I'm crawling out of this funk I've been in for the past week I can now sit in my own home and catch up on all my favorite blogs.  I've found so many new ones lately and I feel so overwhelmed by how many great ones there are to read.
A few new ones (to me) are here:
The Moldy Doily  you may recognize this persons work, i've written about her here.
My Love For You Is A Stampede of Horses a lot of you may already know about this blog but it's new to me and full of beautiful art!
Cake Wrecks If  you haven't seen this blog yet you just HAVE to check it out. It's so funny. My friend Cassie sent me this way and now I'm completely addicted.  Go look now!!
If you're wondering who the two little cuties are in the picture I posted I'll tell you. It's an old photo of my two nieces on halloween. Elizabeth and Emily Kate.  They are glamorous girls. I've been missing them a whole lot lately but hopefully I will be seeing them soon.  Just thought their outfits were very fashionable and needed to be part of this blog.
Thank you all for the well wishes from my past post.  I think the rainbow is starting to come out.
cheers!
