ART2LOVE

How about starting your Monday morning with some beautiful art? I met one Katherine Ann Middleton a couple of years or so ago through mutual friends. After finding out she was an alumnus from the school I was attending I looked up her work and instantly fell head-over-heels. Her paintings are gorgeous. I'm very enchanted by the subject matter. A girl with a house for a head? Yes, please.
These first two pieces are still works-in-progress.

See much more work here. I hope this brightened up your Monday!

For Your Tuesdays

Sorry I haven't posted since Valentine's Day. I have a lot going on in my life right now. Some bad, some good. I definitely have plenty to post, valentine's presents, new etsy items, new artwork. I also have artwork that I need to be finishing up. It's freaking me out to suddenly have a deadline!!
Anyway, here is something beautiful that I came across today. This just had to be shared. I hope you love love love it.

Valentimes!

Thank you so much to all the inspiring comments on my last post. Immediately my day was brightened and I really made a better effort to stop feeling sorry for myself and keep trucking along. Artmaking is so important to me and knowing I'm part of such a fantastic community is really all I need. Thank you thank you!

I hope you are all having a fantastic Valentine's Day. My boyfriend has given me some pretty fantastic gifts that I will eventually photograph and post. I bought myself some make-up at the drugstore today. I thought that would be a nice gift to myself.

Meanwhile, I know most people like to post Valentine's themed shop items way before the holiday so people have a chance to buy and received them on time but if you are like me you do every thing last minute anyway. So here are some pretty neat things in etsy land. The first photograph is an oldie but goodie from my shop but the rest are from lots of different stores.
Have a Happy Red and Pink and doily-framed day!

Art and Fear

I know I occaisionally use this as a venue to be whiny and this is one of those times. So, warning, you may want to leave now. Maybe go to my other blog and read my latest post about that crazy Duggar family.

I keep going through fits of post grad depression and today is one of those fits. I was looking through my bookshelf and realized I still have a copy of Art and Fear and I think it's time I read it again. I haven't read this since I was probably in my third year of undergrad so I'm sure this will mean completely new things for me now.
It's hard hard hard to not be in school and still make art. No, I take that back, making the art isn't hard. It's the feeling alone in it part. I sit alone in my studio and draw and collage and push paint around on paper but my self esteem over what I'm doing gets lower and lower. I can never decide if what I'm making is enough. Is it good enough? Smart enough? Pretty enough? Ugly enough? Where does it fit in? Where do I fit in?

I have definitely gotten better when it comes to these depressing moments. I am being more active about turning that depression into art-making energy. I think reading Art and Fear may just help, too.

Anyone else relate to these feelings? If you're still reading thanks for letting me whine for a bit. Now I'm going to go work in the studio.

Cake Art

Remember Myspace? Anyone still use it? Sometimes I wish I didn't delete my account because it was a great way to find contemporary artists. I remember being friends with someone on there who went by the name Cake. We wrote back and forth a few times, she was really sweet and made awesome work. After I got out of myspace we fell out of touch. Recently I was thinking about her and wondering what became of sweet Cake and her fabulous work. Finally I found her website and am excited to see that she is still making great things and doing really well. Her real name is Stephanie Homa and she is currently living in London. Her site is filled with fabulous goodness. Here are a few examples of her work. Go here to see more though a few pieces may not be safe for work. Mostly not safe if your boss is looking really close at your computer screen. Otherwise go ahead and click that link.

This is what's currently happening in my studio. I have really been working a lot but suffering from "can't finish anything syndrome." Today I have the day off so I'm going to try to get some stuff done... Or start five new things...
How do you finish stuff? Help!

Eye Candy

I was looking around on Etsy today and came across this shop filled with nothing but My Little Pony dolls. Oh man! I forgot about what total eye candy these toys are. If I wasn't so poor right now I would start myself a new collection. Did you love love love these toys back in the day?
Go to Chatty Budgies to see more.

I think this super cool lightening bolt one is my fave. She's got sass!
