Will Cotton

I just finished watching the latest Work of Art and I still don't know where I stand with the show. I like reading different recaps from different types of people to see what others' feelings are. Do you guys watch it? Thoughts? It is very exciting seeing Peregrine Honig in action since I've had an art crush on her for forever. She's still there and going strong and I'm quite pleased. John Parot, unfortunately, got kicked off way too soon. His work is definitely way stronger than a lot of the other contestants who are still around so it's a real shame. I was excited to see what else he would make. The actual work being made is really not that exciting. When you have a challenge and about a day to do it you really can't expect work that is that great. I used to tell my students that art takes time and it's done when it's done, not when you spend x amount of hours. I hated hearing anyone say, "but i spent eight hours on it." "So spend about thirteen more and then it might be finished," I'd tell them.
Okay so I'm not just hear to bitch. I'm actually pretty excited about the guest judge on last night's episode because I fell head-over-heals for his work. I also realized that a teacher once gave me a postcard for one of his upcoming shows because he thought I would like him. I think I immediately lost the postcard so I'm happy for the reminder.
Will Cotton seemed like a charming character. He liked Peregrine's work! She liked his work! I like both of their work! I wish they could like me... haha.
Take a look at some pieces here. Then go to his website to see more greatness:

Spoiler Alert, Bravo's Work of Art

I had such a fantastic weekend. I hope you did, too. My boyfriend and I went to a wedding in a State Park and it was so beautiful and fun and filled with great people. I'm so so bummed because in my attempt to quickly pack I totally forgot to take my camera. No pictures! The bride and groom wanted everyone to wear hats and some people really wore some great ones. At least I have the memories.
Are you all watching Bravo's Work of Art? What are your thoughts on the show?
WARNING, these are spoilers for last week's episode "Book By It's Cover."
I was really bummed because as you know Peregrine is my favorite and I was really looking forward to seeing her on the show. So far she hasn't gotten a lot of airtime but when she finally did it was so they could totally bash her piece. One of the judges even recommend they burn it. The horror! I loved Peregrine's piece. I agree with the criticism about how it doesn't fit the story but as an art piece I still think it's beautiful. Peregrine handled it like a champ, though. She looked a little heartbroken by the comments but she didn't get too dramatic like some of the others on the show. I'm still rooting for her!
And John's piece won! I'm so glad because I think he also made a fantastic piece and I love how you see it and immediately identify it as being his work. It's funny how both of my favorite artists on the show got the same book title and had dramatically different results. I thought they both did a fantastic job. What do you think?

Work of Art

I just watched the first episode of Bravo's Work of Art. When I first heard about the show I didn't know what to think. I had once thought it would be neat to see a show about artists like Project Runway but with art but I immediately nixed that idea because I was afraid of how the artists would be portrayed. There are so many different types of people who make art but often in movies artists are portrayed as hipster scenester snobs and though that can sometimes be an accurate portrayal of some artists I wish that wasn't the face of all artists. So, this was what I expected from this show but it really sort of surprised me.

When I heard Peregrine Honig was going to be on the show I became a lot more excited. I've been a huge fan of Peregrine's work from sometime now. I'm pretty sure I've even posted some of her work on this blog before. After watching the show I feel like the cast is an interesting group of diverse artists. More of them seemed down-to-earth than I expected. The judges seem a bit snobby but I guess that is to be expected.

It was really exciting just watching the artists work. On Project Runway I tend to fast forward through the working process because I just want to see the end results. Watching an artist work may be boring for some but for me it just makes me want to get up and get to the studio.
Check out the show if you can. It's online and easy to watch. I'm curious to see what other opinions are. Have you watched it yet?

I'll leaving you with some beautiful works by Peregrine Honig, all found on her website.
