SGC and Back

I'm back! I was off for four days at SGC, a printmaking conference held this year in St. Louis, MO. It was lots of non-stop fun. It was weird to get home and sit down and do nothing for a few hours. The best thing about SGC is that it really gets your art adrenaline going and when you leave you're ready to print the artworld red. I have tons of ideas and lots of excitement. I think I am officially out of my post-grad slump!
There are many posts that I am preparing for the future. I have several artists to feature and am working on those posts now. For now, here's a quick run-down of my trip as told by Iphone photos...
Right before my trip I was working on this print for an exchange. I like the prints all together like this but am not certain they work well on their own.

I saw this delicious zine show and was reminded of how much I love zines and want to make more more more.
I finally got to see a Squeak Carnwath print in person. I almost fell over. She was my absolute favorite in undergrad. Seeing this piece reminded me to keep her as my favorite now.

I also got to see this beautiful piece by my undergrad professor. Sorry it's so blurry. Nicole Hand makes really beautiful juicy etchings. Here's my friend Rachael and I meeting Tony Fitzpatrick. I'm pretty sure I totally geeked out in front of him. Never mix drinking beer and meeting one of your favorite printmakers. It just equals nerdienss. Oh well, he was a super nice guy and makes fantastic work. So does Rachael.
I took glamour shots with my friend in this classy bar bathroom. The wall paper was flocked!
Firecracker Press was beautiful and everything I want in a studio.
I got to see this lovely girl in a lovely hat.
Sneak peak at arts that will be featured here soon...

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing this amazing couple get married. I cried.
And I was involved in one of the most intense drawing contests ever with some pretty amazing printmakers including my good friend Adrienne who I always miss.

And then I came home and my little rabbit was hopping around and happy to see me!
Much much more to come. I met so many amazing artists and can't wait to start putting together features for them.
SGC forever....

Home

I have some updated photos of my house! I've been working extra hard in the past week to start getting it all pulled together. I have two critiques this week with my professors and I'm more than a little bit nervous. The house still isn't finished yet. I started laying out the faux wood floor but for now it's only temporary until it gets moved to the gallery. Also you may notice the white strip on the wall, I'm missing wallpaper there but that will soon be remedied. This weekend I went with my friend Jessica to buy the furniture. She was helpful because I was being a nervous wreck about it. I knew the furniture could potentially make or break the piece so it had to be perfect. I'm pretty pleased with what I found. Now my biggest challenge is the roof. I don't love it yet. I'm hoping my professors will give me some good advice. My reception is April 22. The countdown is on.
Don't forget my giveaway going on until Monday. Sign up for a chance to win a framed drawing!
To those of you going to SGC this year I'm so bummed out that I don't get to go. Think of my while I'm stuck in my studio.

Southern Graphics Hits Chicago

I'm Back! Remember Me? I've been a crazy busy mess lately but I'm ready to return to blogging and the internet world. Last week I was in Chicago for a printmaking conference. It was so much fun and I got to see so many people. There were friends there from all over the world. My hotel room represented South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas and California! SGC is like one big family reunion. I was sad to leave on Saturday but I did feel very motivated to get in the studio. I saw so much amazing art while I was there.
I was incredibly lucky to be part of a couple of shows at Happy Dog Gallery in Wicker Park. Thursday night was the Grudge Match between Dirty Printmakers of America and the Bastards of Print Society. I had a few pieces hanging in that show. Friday night was Ladies Night and I have to say the ladies of printmaking represented. I feel honored to be part of an amazing group of people.
The picture above is the gallery where we had our shows. Every night turned into a dance party. The picture with chairs was taken outside the gallery. I love this picture. I think it was the only quiet moment during the whole trip.
This was a yummy yummy breakfast I had one morning. After eating nothing but bar food most of the time it was refreshing to have fruit and yogurt all served in a pineapple bowl. A girl nearby our table ordered this and when she got it she took a picture of it and my friend and I said she was probably going to blog about it. haha. And now i'm doing the same!

And I stole this picture from my friend Rachael. Her caption said we just found out we won a basket of kittens. That's my print professor in the background. He must hate kittens!

Finally, here's one of the walls in the Ladie's Night show. Can you pick out my work? Look closely!

I hope I haven't lost too many readers in my hiatus. I'm very ready to get back into the wild world of blogging!
