Kale Shake

Now for a little something different...

This morning I made myself a kale and berry smoothie and it was actually good! It definitely has a leafy taste to it but I don't mind that. My boyfriend and friend were both skeptical and though the color is not intriguing at all it is definitely something I can see myself drinking daily.

The ingredients:

2 cups packed kale
1.5 cups water
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 whole banana
1 scoop protein powder
A handful of chia seeds

Start by blending down the kale with the water. Then add everything else and blend until smooth and an ugly brownish color. Drink up and feel good for being healthy.

I found several recipes on the internet but changed several around to make my own concoction. I had chia seeds on hand so I thought they would be a bonus powerhouse ingredient. Also I love the texture they add. Several of the recipes want you to add way way more kale than the two cups but I thought that would be pushing it on my first try. I may add more as time goes by.

Now go make yourself a yummy smoothie!

And the Theme Is Birthdays...

A friend of mine found these old photos and gave them to me because I have a current obsession with old birthday photos.  Since this month is my birthday month I thought I would share these.  For my birthday I really want to have an old fashioned birthday party where everyone dresses in their Sunday best and doilies are laid out on the table and fancy balloons and streamers decorate the place.  But instead I'll be flying back to Illinois on my birthday and I don't think I can get the airport to do anything special. So instead I'll reminisce with other people's memories.
These two pictures are unrelated but I think it would be so magical if they were the same person.  I wish I wish I wish....
Most of the photos I have are are family photos but it's my new favorite thing to look for at antique/thrift stores.  I'm thinking about doing a print series with the images.  More on that in the future.
Happy happy birthday to anyone. It should be your birthday everyday, minus the aging.

Etsy Feature Wednesday

Today's feature is She Hit Pause Studios or shehitpausestudios. I found this shop shortly after I started my own Etsy shop and instantly became a fan. The images are polaroid transfers which create a soft, dreamy look. According to the artist's profile his work was featured in Daily Candy and was for sale at Anthropolgie.
It was so hard to choose only a few photos to feature on my blog because they are all so great. One of the sections in his shop is called Girls and Dreams. I wish I could live in that section. Check out the photos and imagine you live there and spend the rest of your day feeling satisfied.

Fluffy Ghost Land Cloud

I just uploaded this little dandy to my Etsy site.  It's called Fluffy Ghost Land Cloud and can be yours! It looks great in an IKEA shadowbox frame.
This is the description:

I love drawing Ghost Land scenes on little paper doilies. This is one of those drawings sewn to handprinted Japanese papers with a waxed doily framing the image. The little guys floating in the image are part of a narrative that comes out in my work. They live in the ground and they keep an eye on everything going on. They love to snack on rainbows.

Check it out! And send your energy to the friends and families of DJ AM and Travis Barker as well as all the four victims of yesterday's fatal flight.  The late  Little Chris just lost a brother in a car accident and has a newborn baby at home.  It's truly tragic.  Send some good energy their way, please.
