Glittery Sparkly Jars

Good morning! Thank you for the kind responses on my last post both here and on facebook. Sometimes writing things down helps me better form a dialogue with others and gets me out of my own head. I'm going to keep making and keep exploring and keep finding places for my work.

Today let's look at something glittery. I first saw this tutorial at A Beautiful Mess and fell crazy in love. I thought this would be a perfect way to make my Animal Jars even more fun.

First I bought a couple of jars to try this out on. I went for smooth jars but I also tried it on a smaller jar that wasn't smooth. I bought Mod Podge for the first time in a million years. I can't believe I've gone this long without using it.

I painted a pattern inside the jar and used a paper towel to clean around the edges.

In this one I attempted a chevron design but it looked more like a squiggle.

And then pour the glitter...

And wait....

When that dries go with the next color.

After waiting a very long time most of it had dried but the squiggle jar was still pretty white.

The next day I had better results but the squiggle jar is still being kind of weird. I'm thinking maybe a hairdryer will get that last little bit?

Now I just need to coat the inside with a final layer of Mod Podge to keep the glitter in one place.

This was super fun. I can wait to add something cute to the lid. I'm trying to come up with ideas for the lids that aren't just animals. Any suggestions?

Compilation Blog Blog

I woke up bright and early this morning thanks to the yummy smells of breakfast being made and coffee brought to me in bed. This was a sweet welcome, especially as I have had trouble waking up early lately. My new bedroom is a bit darker than what I'm used to so it makes it hard to have the discipline to get out of bed.

The early wake up gave me plenty of time to catch up on some blog readings and I thought I would make a small compilation of neat stuff here.

For instance, at Angry Chicken Amy shows this sweet little birthday box she made for a lucky birthday boy. I think this is a really neat idea. I always like buying my nieces and nephews art supplies and this is a fun way to put it all together. Get the details here.

And on the blog A Beautiful Mess I learned that Jenny Lewis and her boyfriend are putting out a cd together. Yowza yay! Go to the blog to get the link for a free download.
Also is anyone else doing the 30 Day Journal Challenge on Running With Scissors? It's been hard for me to keep up because of moving and starting a new job but I was able to finish to pages and get them uploaded. I have a few more done but have not had access to a scanner lately so I hope to get them up and going soon. See the images below. It's never too late to join. Now it's still early and I have plenty to do today. Plus I work tonight. Plus I'm going away tomorrow for a whole wedding weekend. I'm excited!

Thursdays

I've edited a couple of more photos and think I'll get some prints made for my shop. I'm really not having much luck selling the photos in my shop so I thought before I get some printed up I would ask for some advice and feedback. Any suggestions on something I could be doing or not doing?

I still have one free print available for the next purchase of ten dollars or more! I made three sales, just one more to go!
