Lets Look at Art!

Thank you all so much for the sweet comments (here and on facebook) left on my last post. It's really wonderful to be part of such a caring community and I am grateful for you all.
Today lets look at some art, shall we?
I just realized today that two good friends of mine have started Etsy shops. They are both so amazingly talented so I'm glad that getting your hands on their work has just been made easier.
Rachael Madeline of Loose Tooth Studio is selling her fantastic mixed media framed pieces. They are all filled with romantic longing and escaped balloons. Don't forget to keep reading her blog here.

And Jessica Robles! Finally her prints can hang in your home. Her shop, Don't Call Me Hessica (and don't...) is filled with many of the gorgeous prints I have often featured here.

Both girls have been part of my dreamy couples posts so that shows you just how dreamy and talented they are. Get your wallets out and start shopping!

Hot Art

My friend Jessica just started a tumbler! Check out these hot new pieces she made last semester. I wish I could live vicariously through her art-making process. Yay, Jess! Click here for more more more.

Someone's Else's Home

Hey! I'm back with a new house to explore. Remember Donald and Jessica from the dreamy, artful couple post? You've seen their art, now check out their home. They recently moved in together and now have a pretty fabulous apartment filled with ton of great artwork and collectables. I had so much fun taking photos while Jessica and Donald sat and caught up with Project Runway (bummer ending, huh?)
Here are the happy couple posing for a serious portrait.

I made them take a break from Project Runway to answer some questions and draw some pictures. They offered me this Capri Sun. I think they were just being polite. I drank it in 5 seconds.

Dreamy, Artful Couple

Don't you love when the planets align and a dreamy, artful couple get together and make dreamy artful work while being a couple?

I do.

I had the pleasure of being in grad school with Jessica Robles for a year. I know I have mentioned her before. She makes beautiful work. She has a really nice illustrationy style that I would give my left hand for (I'm right-handed so that's not totally in vain.). Jessica makes lots of beautiful work that you can see here but this collection is part of her "Shoes" series. They are all lithographs on 22" x 30" paper. That means Big!

These shoes belong to a certain Donald Dixon.
Donald's comic style work is very witty and clever. Every time I see a new piece of his I always laugh. Lately he's been making a lot of work by pasting new art onto comic books. I like his use of comics and his personal commentary. See more of his work here and here.

Jessica and Donald are part of my Dreamy, Artful Couple Series. I just now decided to officially start a series. Do you know any dreamy, artful couples? Are you part of a dreamy, artful couple? Let me know!

The Performance

Oh wow oh wow. I had such a rad time with Cannonball press here. Thursday night we had the opening reception at the gallery and we all got to take part in their performance. It was lots of fun. I was the camera woman, that's me with a camera that everyone helped build and decorate. And Jessica Robles made a fancy light stick.
Here are Martin and Mike, they are about to do the big reveal of what's behind the curtain, notice the video camera?
The big reveal was a huge pig.
Martin cut it open.
It was filled with coins that depicted scenes about morality!!! Wow!!

If this is confusing at all it will make sense when I get the video of the performance on here. It's not a video from my cardboard camera... Someone from the school filmed it all for us. The performance was a take on the big deal syndication in the 80s of the opening of one of Al Capone's vault only to find an empty bottle and nothing else. This was really clever and fun. Video coming soon. Have a great weekend.
