Funeral

Remember when Cannonball Press was here and we all worked together to help them make this huge animal (pig? bull?) carcass? Well the show came down this past weekend and we held a funeral for the carcass. We brought noisemakers and did a funeral walk from the museum to a fire-pit on campus. We then roasted the pig and thought back fondly on all of our favorite memories with it. The following pictures depict all of this. There are a couple of videos also showing the funeral. It was a lot of fun to be part of. We will all miss that carcass but not as much as we miss the guys from Canonball Press.

The Beginning of Something

So this is what I'm working on in the studio. Since last year I've been wanting to build a playhouse of some kind to display my work in. Since my work has so much to do with having a home and the comfort and permanence of home this seemed like the right thing to do. Honestly I set the idea aside because I was too overwhelmed by the project. I could tell my faculty really wanted me to do this, they seemed to express that at my last crit. I still pushed the idea aside out of fear. But then Cannonball came and you saw what all they did. Just watching those guys in action and seeing how they make their large sculptural pieces come to life made me realize I had to quit being a scaredy-cat. Now, with the help of my amazing boyfriend, I've started creating my house. This is just the beginning of it though I did decide to make it only have three walls because I thought it would work better in the gallery that way. I'm excited to start figuring out how I will cover the walls. I was originally going to make wall paper but now I'm starting to think fabric will be the better way to go.

Here are some pictures of the basics. I've started taking my artwork and placing it in the house to get an idea of what will go where but all that will change when the work gets framed. What do you think? Any suggestions or feedback? No one has really seen it yet so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: To Elizabeth, in regards to the last post, I'm sorry I said you gave me hot dog fingers. I meant that in the nicest way ever. I love your hot dog fingers drawing. ( :

The Performance

Oh wow oh wow. I had such a rad time with Cannonball press here. Thursday night we had the opening reception at the gallery and we all got to take part in their performance. It was lots of fun. I was the camera woman, that's me with a camera that everyone helped build and decorate. And Jessica Robles made a fancy light stick.

Here are Martin and Mike, they are about to do the big reveal of what's behind the curtain, notice the video camera?
The big reveal was a huge pig.

It was filled with coins that depicted scenes about morality!!! Wow!!


If this is confusing at all it will make sense when I get the video of the performance on here. It's not a video from my cardboard camera... Someone from the school filmed it all for us. The performance was a take on the big deal syndication in the 80s of the opening of one of Al Capone's vault only to find an empty bottle and nothing else. This was really clever and fun. Balloons!

Thank you thank you to everyone who expressed concerns about my injured finger. It is much much much better and stitches free. I'm still keeping an eye on it but I think I'm pretty much in the clear.

It has been quite an amazing week working with Cannonball Press. Tomorrow night is the reception from 4:30-7 so if you are in the area you should definitely stop by. The guys are going to be doing a bit of a performance piece and the printmaking students get to be part of it so that will be tons of fun.

I just discovered this amazing website called We Love It. Is this website old news and I'm just now catching up? That wouldn't surprise me. But it's got tons of great images so I searched for some beautiful ones with balloons and this is what I got. Can't I just make balloon art forever and ever?

Cannonball!

So I've been a super busy girl all weekend. We have visiting artists at school all week plus I've been trying to sneak in as much studio time as possible. Martin Mazorra and Mike Houston of Cannonball Press are here installing a show in the museum and building some crazy stuff along the way. Thursday is the reception and all the printmakers are taking part in a performance piece. I'm super excited. Both these guys have been so great to work with. Here is a sneak peak of what's happening. I'll post more pictures soon.
